Delaware City Schools students from Carlisle, Conger, Schultz and Smith elementary and Willis Intermediate schools recently raised more than $1,500 for the People in Need Inc. capital campaign.
Students raised the money by conducting various fundraisers before the end of the school year, including hat day, snow cone day and a penny drive, where the winning grade level was rewarded with a water balloon toss on the last day of school.
Two Schultz Elementary students Sam Midura and Tyler Brown recently hosted birthday parties and requested that guests bring food items for PIN in lieu of birthday gifts. Schultz first-grade students collected bags of coins during the school year and donated them to PIN instead of using them for a classroom party.
“Their generosity impresses and amazes me,” PIN executive director Kevin Crowley said. “Conducting a capital campaign during these hard economic times is challenging. PIN is grateful that all of these students chose to help meet the need of the citizens of Delaware County. The gifts that they have given will impact the lives of people in a very meaningful and profound way.”
The capital campaign was launched in an effort to raise $850,000 to move the non-profit organization from its cramped headquarters on North Sandusky Street in Delaware to a more spacious home on Johnson Drive in Delaware that will better serve the organization’s needs.
“We look forward to learning about more creative ways that the school children throughout Delaware County work to raise money for this campaign,” Crowley said.
